What does it mean to be “saved” or have a personal relationship with Christ?
First, you must realize that man has a natural desire to be his own boss and to ignore God’s principles for living. You hear such catch phrases as, “look out for #1”; “do your own thing”; and even “it’s my life and I do what I want.”:
Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
The Bible calls this attitude, sin. The Bible also says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death.” The kind of death that the author of Romans is talking about is a spiritual and eternal death. If you refuse to accept God’s love and offer of eternal life through Jesus Christ, then you remain in your sin and continue to be separated from God. If you die separated from God, you are condemned to an eternity without God in what the Bible calls hell. Therefore, you must admit to God that you are a sinner and confess your sins to Him.
Second, you most realize that you can not save yourself. Jesus tells us that we must be born again. John 3:3 –“I tell you the truth; no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” You must also realize that only Jesus Christ can save you. This is one of the most basic and important passages in Scripture. John 14:6 – “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” How can we know the way to God? The way is through Jesus Christ. As the way, Jesus is our path to the Father. As the truth, he is the reality of all God’s promises. As the life, he joins his divine life to ours, both now and eternally.
Third, you must confess Jesus as Lord and believe that He was raised from the dead.
‘That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 10:9-10
Fourth, you must be willing to surrender your life to Jesus Christ. “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.” Luke 9:23-24
Fifth, you must receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Jesus says; Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
To receive Jesus Christ, pray this prayer by simply reading these words to God:
“Heavenly Father, I know that I am a sinner and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. I want forgiveness for all my sins. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I give my life to do with as you wish from this day forward. I want Jesus to come into my life and come into my heart. Lord Jesus I love you. I ask this in Christ’s name. Amen.”
If you have prayed to receive Christ, I want to welcome you to the eternal Kingdom of Jesus. Please tell us about your new commitment.
