The Devil is in the Details. Fasting requires Preparation (Part 2)

Part One: Prepare Spiritually

First part of the game plan is to prepare your self spiritually.

1) Know what you are praying for. Ask the Holy Spirit to clarify His leading and objectives for your prayer. This will enable you to pray more specifically and strategically.

2) Another way we can prepare ourselves spiritually is to confess our sins. One of the foundations of praying and fasting is repentance. We must confess are sins and receive forgiveness so we can prepare are hearts. 1 John 1:9 reads,

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

3) In the game of football it is said that defense wins games. Satan does not want us to pray and fast so we must prepare a defense to fight off his attacks. We can do this by putting on the full armor of God as found in Ephesians 6:10-18.

4) Winners are always willing to sacrifice. They are willing to sacrifice their time and energy. Paul “Bear” Bryant the winningest coach in college football, the winner of 6 national titles said this, “It’s not the will to win, everybody has that, it is the will to prepare to win that matters.”

Part Two: Prepare Physically

Second part of the game plan is to prepare your self physically. Physical preparation makes the drastic change in your eating routine a little easier.

1) Prepare your body by eating smaller meals before starting your fast.

2) For a few days before you start your fast, avoid high-fat and sugary foods and start eating more raw fruits and vegetables.

3) Gradually wean yourself off caffeine.

4) Research food recipes and have a meal plan prepared in advance.

5) When your fast ends gradually return to your regular eating habits

Have you started your preparations for your fast? Do you feel you are ready spiritually and physically? Pray that God will give you the wisdom you need to prepare for your fast. Join us tomorrow for part 3 of our series: The Devil is in the Details. Fasting requires Preparation.
